(Bed)room for Growth

Bedrooms are a big deal. They just are. They are personal and sacred and, at least for me, are always a reflection of where we are in life. (Note I had Titanic posters plastered on my walls throughout my teen years. That obsession really SUNK in! ;-)). Growing up, I had the luxury of decorating and rearranging two bedrooms, as my parents got divorced when I was three and I spent my childhood switching between two homes.

I've been living on my own for the last nine years, since my Dad passed away when I was twenty. In this time, my values, beliefs, taste and style has changed and morphed as subtly as a gentle wind, yet as extreme as someone being slapped across the face in a Lifetime movie. Both. It's both.

Over the last several months, I've become more educated and attuned not so much to my goals and aspirations, but to my Values- my "Uppercase 'V' Values"-, as Jess Lively points out in her work. And after reading The Life Changing Magic of Tidying up, it's very clear that creating a physical environment that "sparks joy" and is in line with my values is just as important as creating an emotional one in my relationships. It just makes sense.

So here's the point: It was time for a new look in my bedroom; one that reflects my values, as a 29 year-old single-and-ready-to-mingle Creative Entrepreneur. In January, I wrote about the process of creating my Values-Based Living Room (which you can read about here ). As I now move through my home with very clear criteria for bringing things into it, I can see how this manifests in my personal and professional relationships, outside of my deliciously comfortable bed with all the best pillows on it.

With a few of my uppercase 'V' Values in mind throughout the process, I created a bedroom that exudes Cleanliness, Boldness, Warmth, Fun and Growth. Enjoy...
